Rhode Island cyclist looking forward to his third Tour de Scottsdale: 'I love it'
Paul Flynn can’t wait for Tour de Scottsdale - for various reasons.
“I just decided to do it … and I love it,” he said.
He’ll be one of many cyclists coming from colder climes and, well, he loves cycling. And, oh by the way, he loves Tour de Scottsdale, given this will be his third time riding in it.

“The first time we did it, the weather was remarkable,” said Flynn, who is from Warwick, Rhode Island. “The Scottsdale area was unbelievably nice. I’m at the point in my life where I might want to retire there (he’s trying to convince his wife to move there).
“I love it there.”
As for Tour de Scottsdale: “The ride was so awesome I did it again.”
The third time will once again be a charm.

He’ll be there on March 28 with more than 3,000 cyclists riding in either the 62-mile ride or the 30-miler. Flynn will be riding 62 miles. He’s been a cyclist for 30 years and is now 58 years old.
He wants to make it a personal best. The first time he got a flat tire and lost about 30 minutes on his final time. He finished around three hours, 40 minutes. The second time he did it in three hours and 20 minutes.
How did the Warwick resident find the Scottsdale ride? Easy. He was watching the Global Cycling Network and it mentioned El Tour de Tucson, so he went to the website and it mentioned Scottsdale was coming up.
Easy.
“That’s what I do; I look around looking for rides,” he said. “If I see one that looks pretty good and challenging, I make the time and get vacation time to do it. I love riding.”
